Health research/awareness
There are community-based health charities whose
mandate includes providing health awareness. In
addition, may of these organizations provide research
grants and awards for the purpose of scientific
research.
Q What did the landscape of Ontario research look like
in the 1990s before OIT and the Canada Foundation for
Innovation funding arrived?
A Foundation for Innovation funding arrived? It was a
low-lying terrain with a small number of exceptional
spikes of excellence. But those spikes were very narrow
and very steep and not connected in any way.

Together, Ontario Innovation Trust and Canada
Foundation for Innovation invested more than $150M in
high performance computing in the following
institutions or consortiums: $17,915,975 at the
University of Toronto; $65,526,892 at HPCFL, a Queen's
University led consortium; and $67,331,697 at SHARCNET,
a Western University led consortium.
